APTITUDE

“A natural ability to do something or to learn something”

An aptitude test is a part of almost all entrance exams because these evaluate a candidate’s understanding and ability to solve problems in a timely manner.

What is Aptitude?

The definition of aptitude is an innate, learned or acquired ability. It is part of the psychometric tests at the assessment center (the other part being personality tests, personal abilities, attitude and more). Aptitude tests are mainly made to assess intelligence and knowledge.

What is the Purpose of Aptitude Test?

The purpose of the aptitude test is to test your work related perceptions, judgement and reasoning. In other words, your day to day activities on the job. In an aptitude test there is one correct answer, however the key to the test is how quickly you are able to arrive at the correct answer. As such, aptitude tests are carried out under timed conditions. Often the time constraints are such that the test has been designed so that only 1 – 5% of the population will be able to solve all the questions in the particular time duration.

This element of intelligence is not normally linked to independent past experiences or education. It also determines how quickly you are able to pick up new skills and learn new information. It is also considered to be one of the most important factors in learning.

Your results achieved will be compared with others in the group (called a control) and a judgement will be taken on whether you progress.

REASONING

The process of thinking about something in a logical way in order to form a conclusion or judgment and we can also say this the ability of the mind to think and understand things in a logical way or we can in the logical manner.

Reasoning is the process we use to figure out what to believe. This usually involves an argument: a conclusion supported by reasons. The strength of an argument depends on the quality of its reasons. If the reasons make logical sense and use relevant facts or observations, the argument is strong and we should believe it.

Critical reasoning is a vital skill for understanding what read and hear, and for making your own arguments. Whether you’re reading a book, writing a research paper, or conducting a scientific experiment, critical reasoning helps you analyze arguments by breaking them down into reasons and evidence. The process of examining the reasons and evidence that support arguments is the key to building knowledge.
