TRICK to solve “Adding 2 Consecutive Squares”

a² + (a+1)² In this type of questions you will use these two steps and get the answer.

1. The answer always ends in a 1.
2. And you can divide one of the numbers by 5 and multiply by the other to get the first part of the answer.

Examples:

(i) 35² + 36² write down the answer ?

1. Write down 1.
2. 35 ÷ 5 = 7. 7 x 36 = 252. Write 252.
3. The answer is 2521.

(ii) 55² + 54² what will be the answer of this Consecutive squares?

1. Write down 1.
2. 55 ÷ 5 = 11. 11 x 54 = 594.
3. The answer is 5941.
